Frequently Asked Questions About Homeopathic Care
Understanding Homeopathy
-
Homeopathy is a gentle, individualized system of medicine that looks at your pet as a whole rather than focusing on a diagnosis alone. Every animal has a unique story, and that story helps guide remedy selection. By considering your pet's physical symptoms, behavior, personality, and overall pattern of health, homeopathy seeks to support your pet's own healing process.
When illness becomes chronic, it can sometimes seem as though the body has become 'stuck' in an unhealthy pattern. The goal of homeopathy is to gently encourage the body toward balance again, always recognizing that healing is individual and unfolds differently for every animal.
-
Conventional veterinary medicine focuses on understanding disease, making a diagnosis, and treating illness using medications, surgery, diagnostics, and other evidence-based therapies. Homeopathy looks at the whole animal—their physical symptoms, emotional patterns, temperament, preferences, and unique way of expressing illness.
These approaches do not have to be either/or. Conventional medicine is essential for emergencies, diagnostics, surgery, pain control, infection management, and many other medical needs. Homeopathy can be used as a complementary approach when appropriate, with the goal of supporting the individual animal gently and thoughtfully.
-
I provide homeopathic consultations for all animal species. Nutritional and broader integrative veterinary guidance is limited to dogs and cats.
-
As a veterinarian, I practice both conventional (allopathic) and integrative veterinary medicine. I believe these approaches work beautifully together when used thoughtfully. My goal is to integrate homeopathy with conventional veterinary medicine whenever appropriate, always keeping your pet's best interests at the center of every decision.
-
When practiced thoughtfully by a trained veterinarian, homeopathy is generally gentle and well tolerated. Remedy recommendations are individualized, and I consider your pet's full medical history, current medications, diagnosis, comfort level, and overall health before making recommendations.
Safety also means knowing when homeopathy is not enough. Homeopathy should never delay emergency care, needed diagnostics, prescribed medications, surgery, pain management, or other appropriate veterinary treatment. My recommendations are always guided by your pet's health and well-being.
Your Consultation
-
Initial consultations are usually 60–90 minutes, occasionally up to two hours. We'll discuss your pet's medical history, personality, daily habits, preferences, behavior, lifestyle, and your observations. Medical records and laboratory results are reviewed whenever available.
-
Yes. Medical records, laboratory results, imaging reports, and other information provide valuable context and help me better understand your pet's health history. While homeopathic remedy selection is based on the individual rather than the diagnosis alone, these records help create a more complete picture.
-
Please gather any recent medical records, laboratory results, imaging reports, specialist notes, medication lists, supplement lists, and information about your pet's diet and daily routine. A written timeline of major symptoms, diagnoses, treatments, and changes you have noticed can also be very helpful.
Before we meet, spend time over the next few days observing your companion. Details about sleep, appetite, thirst, temperature preferences, behavior, personality, sensitivities, fears, favorite places, and small changes in routine can all help me understand your pet more fully. Photos or short videos can also be useful for movement, behavior, skin changes, breathing patterns, or anything difficult to describe.
-
Because no one knows your companion better than you do.
One of the most important parts of homeopathy is understanding the individual—not simply the diagnosis. During our first consultation, I'm learning about your pet's personality, daily habits, preferences, behavior, medical history, and all of the little details that make them unique.
Your observations help me see the complete picture. In many ways, we become partners in understanding your companion's story, and those insights often guide remedy selection just as much as laboratory results or physical symptoms.
-
After your consultation, I carefully review my notes, study your pet's history, analyze the case, repertorize the symptoms, and select the remedy that best matches your pet's unique individual picture.
This thoughtful analysis typically takes several additional hours after our conversation and is an important part of every chronic homeopathic case. Your consultation fee includes both our time together and the detailed case analysis, repertorization, and remedy selection that take place afterward. My goal is to thoughtfully understand your pet before making a recommendation rather than selecting a remedy during the appointment itself.
-
A brief one-week check-in is included after the initial consultation. Formal follow-up appointments are generally scheduled about one month later, although timing varies depending on the individual case.
-
Healing is an ongoing conversation, not a single event.
Much of every follow-up visit is spent listening to your observations—what has changed, what has stayed the same, and what new patterns you've noticed. Those observations help determine whether a remedy should be continued, adjusted, or whether your companion is entering a new stage of healing. Your careful observations remain one of the most valuable tools we have throughout the healing process.
Healing
-
Healing is rarely a straight line. Just as every animal is unique, every healing journey unfolds differently. Some pets respond quickly, while others improve gradually over time. Patience, careful observation, and ongoing communication give us the best opportunity to encourage healthier patterns and support lasting improvement.
-
Homeopathy may be considered for many chronic, recurring, or complex concerns, especially when the goal is to support the whole animal rather than focus only on one symptom. Families often seek homeopathic care for skin, ear, digestive, urinary, mobility, comfort, respiratory, behavior, anxiety, aging, and quality-of-life concerns.
Every case is different, and a diagnosis alone does not determine the remedy. I look at your pet's individual pattern, medical history, current care plan, and overall vitality to decide whether homeopathy is appropriate alongside conventional veterinary care.
-
No medical system can guarantee healing. Every animal and every illness is different. My goal is to support your pet as thoughtfully and gently as possible while being honest about expectations. Some pets experience remarkable improvement, while others benefit from greater comfort or an improved quality of life. We'll continually evaluate progress together and adjust our approach as needed.
-
Not necessarily. Some pets need only short-term support, while others with longstanding chronic conditions benefit from longer-term treatment. Every recommendation is individualized, and my goal is always to use the least intervention necessary while supporting the best possible quality of life.
Working Together as a Team
-
Absolutely. I welcome collaboration with your primary veterinarian. I'm happy to share records, discuss recommendations, and work together to support your pet's overall care whenever appropriate.
-
Yes. I frequently work with families through homeopathic consultations regardless of where they live. Homeopathic remedies can be prescribed and shipped directly to you from a trusted homeopathic pharmacy.
Veterinary regulations require a valid Veterinarian–Client–Patient Relationship (VCPR) before I can diagnose illness, prescribe conventional medications, or direct medical treatment. I encourage every family to maintain a relationship with their local veterinarian, and I'm always happy to collaborate, communicate, and share records so we can work together as a team.
-
No. Please continue all medications and treatments prescribed by your primary veterinarian unless you and your veterinarian decide together that a change is appropriate. Homeopathy is often used alongside conventional veterinary care, and any changes should always be made thoughtfully and safely.
-
I'll let you know if there are any specific recommendations based on your pet's situation. Otherwise, I generally recommend maintaining your pet's normal routine, continuing prescribed medications unless directed otherwise by your veterinarian, and simply observing. Often the smallest details become some of the most valuable observations we have as we continue learning your companion’s individual pattern.
-
My first responsibility is always your pet's health and well-being. If I believe your pet would benefit from additional diagnostics, emergency treatment, conventional veterinary care, or another integrative therapy, I'll tell you honestly. Homeopathy is one valuable tool among many, and my recommendations will always be guided by what I believe is in your pet's best interest.
-
If your pet is experiencing a medical emergency, please contact your local veterinarian or the nearest emergency hospital immediately. Homeopathy should never delay emergency veterinary care.
Scheduling & Getting Started
-
The first step is scheduling an initial consultation. I'll guide you through the intake process, explain which medical records are helpful, and we'll begin by talking about your companion—because every animal has a story worth hearing.
-
Once a remedy is selected, it is ordered through a trusted homeopathic pharmacy and shipped directly to you with detailed instructions.
